Richard Stallman interviewed by O'Reilly

The man that started it all, the creator of everything GNU and current president of the Free Software Foundation, Richard Stallman has been interviewed by the O'Reilly Broadcast.

Stallman gave an extensive interview, where it spoke about the v2 and v3 versions of the GPL, Bill Gates, software patents and licenses, among other things:
Here is what Bill Gates said in 1991, in a leaked internal memo, about how software patents would have affected Microsoft's chances of getting started:

Gates, 1991: "If people had understood how patents would be granted when most of today's ideas were invented and had taken out patents, the industry would be at a complete stand-still today. The solution [...] is patenting as much as we can [...]. A future start-up with no patents of its own will be forced to pay whatever price the giants choose to impose. That price might be high: Established companies have an interest in excluding future competitors."

It's an interesting read for people who are new to Free Software and are not familiar with Stallman. There's also a short explanation about GNU Affero GPL, which I had never heard of.
For a better look at rms's background, there's always the free book, Free as in Freedom, also hosted at O'Reilly.
